A Restorative Must-Repeat Spa Retreat

With the busyness of the end of summer and back to school season, doesn't a spa retreat sound heavenly?! Well, one of McKee Travel’s newest advisors, Gail Piccirilli had the opportunity to do just that. She recently spent four days at the Miraval Resort and Spa in Austin. She came back rested, refreshed and eager to share her experience. Read on to learn what makes Miraval Austin a spa retreat like no other.

I (Gail) spent four blissful days at Miraval Austin and it’s officially on my “must-visit-again” list. Tucked into rolling hills about 30 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom Airport, this intimate Hyatt Prive property (117 rooms across 13 lodges) blends luxe comfort with robust wellness programming and genuinely warm service. From a prompt hotel car pickup to a fragrant damp towel on arrival, the tone is set for calm from minute one.
Room & Property Highlights

Rooms: Spacious baths with twin sinks, a soaking tub, large walk-in shower and separate commode; plush bedding, adjustable lighting/temperature, a balcony with Lake Travis views and a cozy chaise with a welcome journal.

Layout & walkability: No building is more than a five-minute walk from most rooms, so everything feels intimate and easy to reach.

Welcome center: Serene check-in that overlooks one of the pools, with cold beverages displayed in urns and refreshments to sip while you settle in.
Wellness, Spa & Signature Experiences

Spa: Luxurious treatment rooms, well-stocked locker rooms, a peaceful quiet area and a lap pool with stadium seating—perfect for sunset watching.
Included treatment: My Abhyanga massage (a Swedish/Ayurvedic blend) was deeply relaxing—one spa treatment comes with many packages.

Classes & ceremonies: Soul Journey meditation, Wine & Your Sign (astrology chart prepared in advance), Ring of Light ceremony (write, burn and bury symbolic blocks), and the Sophie Labyrinth walk in a forested setting.
Adventures: Kayaking on nearby Lake Austin (short ride away) plus on-property equine and farm experiences.
Miraval Mode: The property encourages limited phone use to help you unplug and truly rest.

Food, farm & desserts
Dining venues: The Nook for coffee, smoothies and snacks; Hilltop Crossing Kitchen for lunch and dinner; poolside service available.
Farm-to-table: An on-site farm supplies vegetables, eggs and honey — you can even visit it during your stay.

Menus: Daily buffet and à la carte lunch options, inventive nightly dinners (vegetarian choices plus occasional special proteins), and an extensive wine list.
Sweet endings: Crowd-pleasers like avocado-chocolate cookies and homemade salted-caramel gelato—memorable finishers after every meal.
Service & Planning Ease
Booking: A personal guest coordinator handled my reservation, I booked adventures and classes online, and a pre-trip call about two weeks before departure fine-tuned my schedule.
Itinerary detail: After the call I received a thorough itinerary with class times, durations, instructors and locations.
Arrival touches: Bell staff handled luggage, welcome drinks and small comforts made the transition from travel to relaxation effortless.
Evenings & Vibe

Nighttime: Evenings on the balcony watching the moon and stars were a perfect bookend to activity-filled days.
Community: Balanced programming makes it ideal for solo recharge, a baby-moon, or a group getaway—flexible stays from day visits to weeklong retreats.
